Reactions have continued to pour in following federal government’s declaration of ‘Operation Amotekun’ as an illegal security outfit.
Attorney-General of the Federation & Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami said ‘Amotekun’ is not backed by any known law in the land and its therefore unconstitutional.
He added that the issue of defence and security are under the exclusive list and not with the states.
Federal government’s decision have being eliciting reactions from Nigerians, especially Yoruba leaders.
Some are citing the existence of the Sharia law and the creation of Hisbah or Islamic police in the North, as premises for the creation of ‘Operation Amotekun’.
They say the power to outlaw the operation lies with the courts and not the attorney general of the federation.
Yoruba Socio-cultural, Afenifere says federal government should go to court it it feels South West governors are wrong.
Meantime, South West governors say they will meet and decide on an appropriate response to federal government’s declaration.
